Cabin Overheat Protection is worth having. It just works against the physics instead of with them, and it isn't built to run all day. Venting the windows is the passive half it's missing, and the two work best together.
What it does
Runs the air conditioning (or just the fan, on “No A/C”) to hold the cabin at or below about 105°F while the car is parked. It's automatic once you switch it on, and it keeps the windows up, which is better for security and rain.
Where it falls short
It only runs for up to 12 hours after you walk away, so a full workday or an airport trip outlasts it. It cools by spending battery, the single biggest parked draw. And 105°F is still hot: the dash, the belt buckles, and the screen sit well above that.
What venting adds
Cracking the windows a few inches lets the trapped hot air actually leave, with no battery cost and no time limit. VentMode does it automatically: open at 75°F, closed for rain or at your set evening time. Keep Cabin Overheat Protection on as the floor, and it barely has to run.

A parked car heats up because of the greenhouse effect. Sunlight pours in through the glass, but the heat it creates can't get back out. On a warm day a closed cabin can climb 30–50°F above the outside temperature in under an hour. Cabin Overheat Protection fights that with the compressor; venting removes the cause.
The greenhouse trap
Glass lets sunlight in and traps the heat it becomes. With the windows sealed, that heat has nowhere to go, so the cabin bakes far hotter than the air outside.
Venting is the release
Cracking the windows is the most effective passive way to let trapped heat escape: no energy, no A/C, no battery drain. Hot air flows out, the cabin equalizes toward the outside temperature, and every degree it doesn't have to cool back down from is electricity your car never spent.
Heat wears your car down
Sustained high cabin temperatures can, over time, crack and fade the dashboard, dry out seat leather and trim, and stress sensitive electronics. Keeping it cooler protects the interior you paid for.
Letting an app touch your car is a big ask
So VentMode does the least it can. It reaches your Tesla only through Tesla's own Fleet API, it can do exactly one thing (crack the windows a few inches), and it always closes them for rain or by the hour you set.
